Aside from his bizarre Network-inspired statement, Isaiah Washington initially kept quiet following his firing from "Grey's Anatomy," letting his riled-up spokesman do the talking instead. But the former Dr. Burke finally broke his silence by speaking to Entertainment Weekly about his firing and his future plans. Here are a few highlights:
On whether his firing was fair:
"I'm saddened by the outcome. I did everything that the producers and the network asked me to do. I came back under great duress and stress, and thought I was doing the job I was hired to do."
On what he'll miss about "Grey's":
"I'll miss working with the team. I think the past season we got our rite of passage and we pretty much all learned what we can and we can't do...like any other new show or fledgling child trying to find its legs. Season 4 is going to be stronger, better and wiser and smarter, and I had hoped to be a contributor to that."

On how this will affect his career:
"I can only apologize so many times. I can only accept so much responsibility. All the players involved have taken care of what we needed to take care of in-house — and the media took it in a different direction. ... I just hope people can understand in the industry and otherwise that it's a horrible misunderstanding what transpired with our show and it was blown out of proportion. If the naysayers out there feel that some justice has been served and that they're happy with the outcome, so be it."
On what he'll do next:
"I've gotten a ton of offers in both film and TV, and now my agent Ben Press and I are just sorting through all the options. There is one network in particular that's very interested. But I don't want to say anything specific until it's a done deal."
Washington also denied rumors that he's plotting a lawsuit against ABC, which is a relief; this drama has been around long enough!

im gonna miss Dr.Burke because although i think what Isaiah said was horrible, hes been working hard to fix those mistakes.
1Dr.Burke is one of my favorite characters on Greys and I'm not sure if the show will be good without him
He got what he deserved. Think about it. If the situation were flipped and Patrick Dempsey called Isaiah a n****r, what do you think would have happened? Everyone and their dog would have been calling for PD's head on a platter. Hate is hate regardless of where it's directed - race, religion, sexual orientation. It doesn't matter.
2I very much agree with Trixie6...hate is hate and what he said was wrong. Besides all that, I think his character had reached the end of his storyline anyway. There was no where to go with Dr. Burke.
3Dr. Burke will be missed, but the show will survive; I agree with Pink_Lipstick: Dr. B's storyline was near the end. Change can be positive for both the show and for his career. Hopefully both he and Grey's can move on.
4Paris Hilton said the "N" Word and used anti-gay slurs and yet no one holds her accountable for that. She's never apologized or even admitted it, although it's on video. Popsugar still shows pics of her talking about how cute her hair or outfit is. At least Isaiah APOLOGIZED, WENT TO REHAB, AND MADE A PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCMENT DENOUNCING HATE SPEECH. That's good enough for me. We can never change a person's heart or mind, but he did take the right actions, in my opinion. I love the Burke character. There are so few complex African American male TV roles. Burke was by far my favorite in a very sparse landscape. It's a pity that the actor's move toward reconcililation isn't good enough for so many people. At what point do we forgive? I even forgave Imus. I believe that people who demand compassion should also display compassion. Otherwise, what's the point of anyone ever saying they're sorry?

7Hm I am conflicted. I wanted his character to stay on pretty badly. It is such a great show and he is a good actor. I just think that too many people out there get away with hate speech and the producers were not ready to have the image of condoning this. Why is Paris getting offers to have "get out of jail parties" thrown for her AND get paid for it I don't get so if they do this to isiah they should hold Paris accountable for making fun of blacks Jews and poor people! She has no talent period! Anyway I think it was fair to do what they did . He will never pull that stunt again for sure!
8Love the show. Love the character. HATE what he said. In any other profession, he would have been fired immediately. Not sent off to "rehab." He got what he deserved. Now I wish he'd stop complaining about it.
9Yeh, he's gone!lol. He got what he deserved; Now he has to deal with the consequences. He's hate wasn't cured, it was just an act. I'm glad T.R. is staying on the show. Karma is not something to laugh at.
10I agree with mwmsjuly19
11meh - good riddance - not because I condemn him for his harsh words, but I was really never a Burke fan. I thought he was a chump.
12Good points all around. It is what it is. I will miss his character though.
13I hope this doesn't hurt the show...
14I don't know if this will hurt the show. What DOES hurt the show is 1) he did what they asked him to do and they STILL fired him... Why bother? Why not just fire him to begin with? 2) He took the high road and isn't suing or saying anything derogatory against his cast mates. That's saying a lot, and makes the show look stupid.
15I don't know what I think.
